Communal Granaries

Communal Granaries - German-Russian Social, Cultural & Heritage History
These enormous granaries were originally built by the G-R’s for grain storage. They were very well built of heavy timbers, shielding out moisture and rodents. In case of famine the people had food for man and beast. It was later learned that Stalin’s attempts to destroy G-R culture and genealogy, was cleverly concealed in the grain and protected for nearly 70+ years. Rare old books and family genealogies were hidden deep in the grain that was stored in these granaries. Hence many genealogical family charts and other valuable historic books and records are being made available today among the G-R’s of the Volga and elsewhere due in part to this ingeneous preservation strategy.
