The American Badger - NNA1234

The American Badger - NNA1234 - Animals
The animal is purposely flat bodied so it can crawl into its' den in the ground more easily. In the early days of the western provinces, especially Manitoba, where they are quite abundant, small children under the the ages of five or less, often wandered out of the yard away from the house and fell into a badger hole in the ground. If the child was not rescued in time he would die of exposure or unable to climb out or to be rescued in time. The badger is a fierce animal and can run quite fast, but only for a short distance because of its body weight. (Photo Courtesy: Reuben Bauer)
