The male Mallard duck (drake) is a very colorful bird. It's rich colors are very attractive, while the female is usually a dull brownish in color with some markings mixed into it's plumage. The mallard duck is common to the Canadian Prairie ponds, lakes and streams where they lay their eggs for nesting and raising their young. In the Fall most to these birds migrate south to warmer climates.
